GOOD FOR YOU
The long overdue HEALTH LP will see the light of day next month! This limited edition (500), hand screened ditty will hits stores officially on Dec. 4 2007. Just in time for the holidays!
The band will have copies for their west coast tour in January 2008.
You'll need to contact your local store and make sure they're on order or head out to one of the shows to obtain this first pressing. Love Pump United will have some as well.
Thanks for your patience. Worth the wait!
We've posted an MP3 from the LP, come on by and give a listen.
"Healthy servings of tribal percussion, asymmetrical instrumentation, and animalistic curvatures make this band's noisy aggression effective, without the need for intelligible lyrics. The near-innocuous opening track of HEALTH's self-titled album, "Heaven," segues into the 36-second neurotic dissonance of "Girl Attorney," which picks up tempo on its transition into "Triceratops" -- a thrashing scourge of screeches, feedback, and gratuitous clanging reminiscent of Liars laced with a relief of a Deerhunter meditation. Not even six minutes into the album, and you are drawn into a mind-numbing sonic overload only sauntered by HEALTH's noisy predecessors." -SPIN.COM

AQUARIAN SYMPHONY
Ladies and Gents-
Cold Sweat Records is proud to announce we will be re-issuing the amazing psych opus "Penetration, An Aquarian Symphony" by The Ya Ho Wa 13 this winter 2008.
For those un familiar.....Harkening back to 1972, time of the cult-occult-commune explosion. By day, the Source Family served organic cuisine to John Lennon, Julie Christie, Frank Zappa and others at the famed Source restaurant. By night, in a mansion in Hollywood Hills, they explored the cosmos through the channeled wisdom of their charismatic leader, Father Yod. Father was an outlandish figure who had 14 “spiritual wives,” drove a Rolls-Royce, and fronted the rock band Ya Ho Wa 13, now considered by collectors to be one of the most singular psychedelic bands of all time.
In conjunction with the launch of the new Process Media book The Source: The Untold Story of Father Yod, Ya Ho Wa 13, and The Source Family by Isis Aquarian, the author and a dozen original Source Family members from the legendary LA cult/commune will mark a return to Los Angeles in early November for rare live performances and book signings.
The two events mark the first public performance in thirty years of the Family’s legendary rock band Ya Ho Wa 13. The live music event at The Echoplex on November 16 will also feature the seminal proto-punk psychedelic garage rocker, Sky Saxon and The Seeds—Saxon was also a devoted “member of The Source

TIME OUT
Most indie-rock bands from Louisville, KY, are in some way or another connected to Slint, and the Phantom Family Halo is no exception: It includes Michael McMahan, brother and occasional collaborator of that band’s frontman, Brian McMahan. PFH’s hypnotic, druggy psych-pop sounds about four decades older than it actually is; this may be a result of another L’ville connection in the band, to the out-and-not-coming-back psych collective Sapat, a group that summons wildly intense mind-altering forces. Midnite Snake is a like-minded outfit from Pittsburgh that gets to its tweaked state via Hendrixian rock played with atomic ferocity. Oh man—yeah. (And we really mean that.)

YOUR FLESH
Dead Child is a new metal band featuring Dave Pajo, and I’m not sure if it’s the killer riff that opens “Angel of The Odd” or the fact that vocalist Dahm sounds uncannily like Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna, but I’m completely sold on this debut EP [Cold Sweat]. This is well played, well sung, well produced metal that will likely get ink in indie rags based on Pajo’s involvement, but the truth is, he’s only one of the two guitarists here, and the guitar playing is pure metal chugging, so if you’re expecting to be distracted by post rock-isms, prepare to eat your words. If the dudes in Dead Child are tourists, they’ve certainly mastered the language. So who cares?

BY THE WAY
Early reviews are glowing!.....
I’m also right blown away by the catchy and compelling all-purpose psychedelia of THE LEGEND OF BLACK SIX by power trio The Phantom Family Halo. I say ‘all purpose’ because this stuff is useful and should be available by the vat on prescription, because it’s good for the mental health. I say power trio, but this lot are greedy motherfuckers with a hefty set of auxiliary members. The sound is totally reminiscent of that 1970 period when no fucker could control the number of overdubs, and these guys pass through every stage from The Youngbloods and Kalackakra to a kind of Amon Duul PARADIESWARTS DUUL-informed take on David Voorhaus’ White Noise project via early (very early) Chrome on their way to the proto metal of ‘Electric God In Your Galaxy’.
-Julian Cope / Head Heritage
This LP landed unnoticed late last year, like a flying-saucer deep in the woods. Invisible to conventional radar, its phosphorescent after-trail was fortunately spotted by a gaggle of eagle-eyed UFO enthusiasts. Originating from Louisville, Kentucky, a world where acid rock and glam are clearly still king, this sounds like a lost concept album from 1973, though exactly what that concept might be isn’t entirely clear. The title track is a delirious slice of offbeat space-opera that combines elements of Krautrock and early Floyd with the deadpan yet oddly-touching dronesongs of Eno’s 'Taking Tiger Mountain'. 'Lady Blue' is a hazily lysergic Tyrannosaurus Rex style singalong, while 'Black River' takes the restless staccato bass-pulse of Can’s 'Mother Sky' and plays it on a pub piano. 'Saving Civilisation As We Know It' is my favourite: a fabulous glam-stomp fusion of Hawkwind and early Eno, complete with bonkers Bob Fripp style guitar wig-out. Someone please, please get Tony Visconti to produce them.
-Fact Magazine
"Debauche hedonism a la early 1970s rock... a party album for excavating your libido. Krautrock lock grooves give way to full throttle Alice Cooper/Black Sabbath moves but mid-tempo Scott Walker fronting early Roxy Music is closest to the core; with occassional flickers of Tangerine Dream synth-glaciers and Marc Bolan bare-bones. Dominic Mario Santo Cipolla also sings in Dead Child (Venom/Judas Priest veined metal band with David Pajo on guitar; ep forthcoming) and plays drums and sings some with Sapat (forthcoming LP/CD on Siltbreeze). Phantom Family Halo guitarist Michael McMahan was also a touring member of the Slint Reunion band and founding member of The For Carnation along with his older brother Brian McMahan."

JULIAN COPE HEARTS THE PHANTOM FAMILY HALO
THE PHANTOM FAMILY HALO
GET READY PEOPLE... were proud to announce our newest addition to the Cold Sweat family and our next release THE PHANTOM FAMILY HALO.
Repetitious psychedelic dreams give way to flickering space synthesizers, as Louisville, KY's The Phantom Family Halo dig deep to create something fresh and vital out of something old and glorious. Think Syd Barrett and Scott Walker jamming with Hawkwind or the 13th Floor Elevators in the height of the 'Krautrock' frenzy, or the Birthday Party subdued to play a rendition of "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.” Can you imagine? You don't have too!
The Phantom Family Halo are the product of millions and millions of hours in front of speakers, communicating off of the wave forms of 60s & 70s rock n roll music. Core members Michael McMahan (The For Carnation / Dead Child /Slint (reunion)} and Dominic Cipolla (Hookers / Sapat / Dead Child) have been jamming together for over 13 years and have no fear of angelic apparitions while walking past the skeletons of rock's multi-dimensional idiom. In fact it's embraced and cherished.
The Phantom Family Halo's debut long player 'The Legend Of Black Six' (on Cold Sweat Records) will put you in the cockpit of a journey into other worlds and dimensions of time. Harkening back to the trailblazers of experimental rock music, while fitting nicely within the nest of neo psyche brethren Dead Meadow, Entrance, Six Organs Of Admittance or Bright Black Morning Light. The Phantom Family Halo are the missing link to the past and future, rooted deeply in 'the now'.
Slip inside their house, it's recommended for good health and more hours in front of speakers.
THE LEGEND OF BLACK SIX will be released stateside on July 31, 2007.

COLD SWEAT / BUDDYHEAD SXSW 2007
Hey winner, Check this out…………….
COLD SWEAT RECORDS & BUDDYHEAD RECORDS present:
SXSW 2007
'WE GOT THIS THING ON THE MOVE'
THURSDAY MARCH 15TH 2007
BLENDER BALCONY @The Ritz
320 East 6th Street
AUSTIN, TX 78701
8PM
*poster by Travis 'Fudge' Millard
Two of Los Angeles' most delightfully unpredictable record labels, Cold Sweat and Buddyhead, present their current rosters for this year's cluster fuck of good times known as South by Southwest! These two notorious labels have teamed up before in Texas for SXSW and brought you parties in crack house neighborhoods, sleazed out skate ramps, and shithouse sports bars.... but not this year! Cold Sweat and Buddyhead are going official in 2007!!!
Now don't come expecting sideways haircuts, neon sweatshirts, ironic mustaches and eyeliner here. Hell no! Cold Sweat and Buddyhead bring you the best in 'Negative PMA’ (positive mental attitude). The night will feature a cavalcade of sound and volume-as well as surprise DJ sets, giveaways and according to promoters "A ton of ludes"!?! Go ahead and blow chunks but just don’t blow this! 'We Got This Thing On The Move" will prove to feature an eclectic and diverse frenzy that will leave you blissed out and buried with performances by the following:
SHAT (Buddyhead)
http://www.jeffwoodofshat.com
SHAT is the natural extension of idiot savant, true rebel icon, and underground porno star Jeff Wood. SHAT could quite possibly be our generations Bob Dylan, or perhaps James Taylor with a particular predilection for vernacular references to the more choice pieces of the female anatomy and a bullet lodged in his skull.
LORDS (Cold Sweat)
http://www.myspace.com/lordsoflouisville
Lords are the heir apparent to the the Louisville throne. The town that spawned such greats as Slint, Crain, Bastro and Squirrel Bait has been busy raising new young. Its loudest child is that of Lords. The hybrid of early Black Flag, Corrosion of Conformity, Kinghorse crossed with kinetic contemporaries Coliseum, Ed Gein, and Doomriders . Much like their predecessors, Lords conjure up a creative and abusive sound based in punk, metal and hardcore.
The outcome is nothing less than pure power, dexterity and
volume (a lot of volume). Bring ear plugs and a diaper. You've been warned!
DEAD CHILD (Cold Sweat)
http://www.myspace.com/deadchildmusic
Dead Child (featuring David Pajo of Slint and members of For Carnation and Lords) unashamedly blaze new territory, not unlike groundbreaking metal purveyors Voivod did in the late 1980s. Their sound straddles the early days of British Heavy Metal (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Budgie) and the multi dimensional world of current 'heavy rock' (The F*cking Champs, Saviours, Baroness) without being retro, kitsch or posturing for acceptance.
THIS MOMENT IN BLACK HISTORY (Cold Sweat)
http://www.myspace.com/thismomentinblackhistory
Once humorously described as “James Brown being violently hijacked by Gang of Four”, This Moment in Black History’s music is actually a potent mixture of classic punk guitars and an intense vocal undertaking, filtered through the “blackest” rhythm section in today’s current underground scene. These attributes are the key ingredients for the bands latest medley of humor, frustration, passion, and urgency, It Takes a Nation of Assholes to Hold Us Back. This most recent update of the band’s sound is a direct result of the band’s experiences.
PUSHER (Cold Sweat)
http://www.myspace.com/pusherdudes
Think Die Kruezen at it's dirtiest, Laughing Hyenas in thier prime and Lil John partying up a storm. That's Pusher. Hailing from Lousiville, KY, Pusher features ex members of Breather Resist, Lords, LickGoldenSky and Coliseum. Pusher aren't looking to recreate the past, but head balls to the walls into the future. Fast and loud is the moto. Get Some.
THE PHANTOM FAMILY HALO (Cold Sweat)
http://www.myspace.com/thephantomfamilyhalo
Repetitious psychedelic dreams give way to flickering space synthesizers, as The Phantom Family Halo dig deep to create something fresh and vital out of something old and glorious. Think Syd Barrett and Scott Walker jamming with Hawkwind or the 13th Floor Elevators in the height of the 'Krautrock' frenzy.
Can you imagine? You don't have too. The Phantom Family Halo's upcoming debut long player 'The Legend Of Black Six' (on Cold Sweat Records) will put you in the cockpit of a journey into other worlds and dimensions of time. Harkening back to the trailblazers of the 60's and 70's, while fitting nicely within the nest of neo psyche brethren Dead Meadow, Six Organs Of Admittance or Bright Black Morning Light.
THE CASSETTES (Buddyhead)
http://www.thecassettes.com
The Cassettes are Washington D.C.'s premier "vaudeville steam-punk" band. This "Musical Explorers Society" is fronted by Mr. Shelby Cinca, formerly the voice and guitar behind such notable D.C. groups as Frodus and Decahedron. He has also been the man responsible for recording various instantly classic D.C. indie albums such as Dead Meadow's first two full lengths. But don't be fooled into thinking there is any sort of punk/hardcore/post-punk tomfoolery happening here. The sound of The Cassettes strolls lavishly down the "Rocky Raccoon" / "Honey Pie" path that some could describe as synth-infused country stomp folk. Joining Shelby in his vision of pushing musical boundaries and expectations is Stephen Guidry on squeezebox and moog, Saadat Awan on drums and tablas, and an extensive cast of banjo, theremin, and saw players.

Get Some.

THIS MOMENT IN BLACK HISTORY: It Takes A Nation Of Assholes To Hold Us Back
Just as their hometown is named “America’s Poorest City,” Cleveland’s aggro-anarcho crew drops their second Molotov cocktail. Like most great Ohio acts from whom they’ve taken inspiration (Pagans, Spike In Vain, Dennis Kucinich), they do not slide neatly into any specific category. The initially overt spazzcore flavor is there (think An Albatross), but This Moment flings bottles farther back to the Bad Brains’ overwhelming fury at the state of things. After an introductory ’60s Negro-relations-LP sound bite splice-up, the razor blasts kick in with a vengeance. But all the stabbing is undercut with Lamont Thomas’ shifty, loose drumming, which takes a turn from the usual herkyjerys. And after dropping references to flamboyant ex-Cavaliers and Charlie Parker, the band exposes more tricky maneuvers, like spine-weaving riffs, synth-chopped pang-pop and the singer’s fairly articulate spit-spew, which allows you to actually catch a couple of the complaints.
